The city of Chernihiv is rich in historical, cultural, and spiritual landmarks. One such place is the "Svyate" protected area. According to legends, this site was used for the baptism of Chernihiv residents in 989. Over time, the lake in this area has transformed into a transitional, or mesotrophic, swamp. A few years ago, pine trees began appearing in the area, but their needles started turning yellow, and soon the trees began to die in large numbers. The cause of this was later identified as bark beetles, which were destroying the foliage on a massive scale.
Before starting the treatment of pine stands at the Lyman Forestry Enterprise of Donetsk Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration, an examination was conducted using the crown shaking method to assess the entomological canopy. The number of pine looper caterpillars is alarming. It is important to note that in many areas, the supply of food substrate is low. Therefore, even the observed number of pest caterpillars poses a high risk of severe needle defoliation.

The employees of the Kharkiv Forest Protection Service recently treated the local natural landmark, the "Harkusha Oak." This oak, named after the 17th-century Cossack leader Semen Harkusha, is located in Hai village, Romny district, Sumy region. The ancient oak is over 450 years old, reaching approximately 35 meters in height and more than 6 meters in circumference. Familiarization of students with the specifics of the biological laboratory
During their forestry phytopathology training practice, third-year students of the forestry faculty visited the State Specialized Forest Protection Enterprise "Kharkivlisozakhyst" (Pokotylivka, Kharkiv region). Employees introduced the students to harmful local and invasive species for forest plantations (entomopests and phytopathogens), which already cause or may cause significant damage to forestry in case of non-compliance with phytosanitary control conditions at borders.

We draw your attention to the mass flight of pine looper moths. The excessively high air temperature at the beginning of the growing season this year has led to changes in the phenological development periods of many harmful forest insects.
Currently, the forest protection service in Donetsk region (NPP "Sviati Hory", outbreak area about 2.5 thousand hectares) and Kharkiv region (Kupiansk Forestry, area about 350 hectares) report active moth flights.
