Bark beetles continue their journey through Ukrainian pine forests. The consequences for plantations are dire. Just a year ago, these pine stands were green... Now, in Bobrivske and Borivske forestry, some pine plantations have completely lost viability due to infestation by bark beetles, jewel beetles, and damage by ophiostomatoid fungi. According to the State Enterprise "Severodonetsk Forestry and Hunting Management" of the Luhansk Regional Forestry and Hunting Department, the situation has significantly worsened since June 2018. A year ago, forest drying in this area was classified as group drying, affecting 17 trees over 0.9 hectares. Today, the number of dead trees exceeds 40. This increase is observed even before the full development of bark beetles, particularly the engraver beetle.
The Journey Without Borders
Pine stands were dying even before the xylophagous larvae began feeding. Through joint efforts, we will continue conducting forest pathology surveys and monitoring the development of xylophages and the condition of the plantations.
