The forest pathology survey of the state enterprise “Kreminske Forestry and Hunting Management” continues… After surveying the Veryhinske forestry, the area affected by the storm is approximately 175 hectares, with an estimated damaged timber stock of 1.1 thousand cubic meters.
The storm continues to impress with its scale – a hurricane wind, heavy rain, and in some places hail lasted for 10-15 minutes. Photographs cannot convey the volume of broken and uprooted middle-aged pine trees. One can only imagine the cracking sounds echoing through the forest during the bad weather; not only individual trees were damaged, but also groups and even small groves deep within the forest.
Now, the primary task is to coordinate and carry out sanitary and health measures to prevent the formation of mass breeding centers of xylophagous insects, especially bark beetles, which continuously expand their breeding areas and accelerate the drying out of forest stands.
