Ukrainian Steppe

The Ukrainian steppe... Many writers and filmmakers have praised our picturesque steppe landscapes – ravines covered with diverse grasses and feather grass, endless roads stretching beyond the horizon, and small green bushes like oases in the desert. All these beauties can be seen in the Bilovodsk district of Luhansk region.

Now, at the end of the quiet season, foresters of SE "Bilovodsk Forestry and Hunting Enterprise" are experiencing a busy period. Powerful dry winds, lack of precipitation, and soil characteristics (marl horizons) have negatively affected the physiological state of forest stands, making them vulnerable to nature. Weakened plantations are most susceptible to being affected by various pathogenic organisms.

Currently, the most urgent problem in Ukraine’s forestry sector is the drying out of pine forests due to bark beetle infestations. However, deciduous forests also face severe drying due to root, basal, and trunk rots.

Unfortunately, humanity has not yet learned to fully control natural phenomena – to reduce dry winds, cause rainfall at the right time and place – but we will continue to restore our green forests so that future generations can enjoy not only the ravines of the steppe but also the forests of Ukraine.
