State Forestry Agency Meeting

On March 29, under the chairmanship of Deputy Head of the State Forestry Agency Volodymyr Bondar, a meeting of the State Forestry Agency was held. The meeting addressed forest protection against pests and diseases, the state of forestry science, and the organization of equipping patrol teams' vehicles with GPS trackers.

Additionally, participants were presented with information on the development and operation of the "Forests of Ukraine" geoportal, the implementation of electronic timber accounting, and the use of secondary forest resources.

The agenda items sparked heated discussions among participants. Of particular concern was the forecasted increase in pest and disease spread in 2018, expected to be 5-6 times higher than in 2017. This issue was exacerbated by the prohibition of forestry activities during the quiet period from April 1 to June 15 and adverse weather conditions that had hindered spring forestry activities.

The agency approved the Development Program for Research Institutions under its management for 2018–2027, with implementation measures to be developed by May 1, 2018.

There was also a positive reception of information regarding the organization of patrol vehicles being equipped with GPS trackers. It was recommended that all passenger vehicles used in the forestry sector be equipped with monitoring systems to track their movement and usage.
