The pine sawfly is considered one of the most dangerous pests of pine forests in Ukraine and Europe. This highly adaptable species thrives in both humid and dry conditions. It poses a particular threat to Scots pine plantations up to 25-30 years old. To protect forest plantations in Donetsk region, specialists from the Supervision and Forecasting Department (headed by T.V. Kucheriavenko, senior forest pathologist O.M. Synytska, and URAL-GARD driver M.V. Ovdeichuk) carried out forest protection measures on May 4-5, 2016. They targeted a mass outbreak of the pine sawfly (Neodiprion sertifer Geoffr.) using aerosol technology GARD-MN and the chemical agent "Bliskavka" 10% EC in the Scots pine plantations of Krasnopil and Mayatske forestry enterprises, managed by the Sloviansk Forest Enterprise of the Donetsk Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration.

The harmfulness of the pine sawfly to young pine stands is significant. High larval density on trees leads to damage to the May shoot growth. As larvae feed, they gnaw into the young shoot tissues, destroying the tree's growth point. This disrupts the morphological and physiological development of Scots pine plantations. Additionally, with excessive pest population density, larvae begin to damage tree bark in first-class age plantations, further negatively impacting the physiological development of the tree stands.
