Spring is a busy season for forestry - planting, the beginning of the fire-danger period, and pest control. The forests of Left-Bank Ukraine are located in areas with constant pest outbreaks, so every year the forest protection service together with forestry guards conducts treatments of pest centers to localize them and reduce defoliation levels. This week, treatments of forest stands in pine forests of SE "Izyum Forestry" of Kharkiv Regional Forestry Management and state forestry enterprises of Poltava Regional Forestry Management have begun.
To prevent growth loss and drying of stands due to pest damage, mechanized teams went to the mentioned forestry enterprises to carry out extermination measures.
As of today, the employees of the forest protection enterprise have conducted extermination measures using GARD (Adjustable Dispersion Generator Aerosol) on an area of 5,713.0 hectares. This includes 3,303.0 hectares against pine moth in SE "Izyum Forestry" of Kharkiv Regional Forestry Management, and against red pine sawfly: 910.0 hectares in SE "Novosanzharske Forestry" and 1,500.0 hectares in SE "Poltava Forestry" of Poltava Regional Forestry Management. The extermination measures continue.
