The United Nations General Assembly, in its resolution A/RES/67/200, proclaimed March 21 as the International Day of Forests. This day aims to highlight the importance of forests for life on our planet and to raise public awareness about their crucial role. The International Day of Forests is celebrated worldwide in all countries.

Forests cover about one-third of the Earth's land surface and are home to 80% of terrestrial biodiversity. They play a key role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Additionally, forests provide people with wood, fuel, food, and medicine, and have significant cultural and recreational value.

Each year, the International Day of Forests focuses on a specific theme that highlights particular aspects of forest management and conservation. In 2019, the theme was "Forests and Education," emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about forests among youth and adults.

In Ukraine, various events are traditionally held to mark the International Day of Forests: lectures, seminars, exhibitions, children's drawing competitions, and tree-planting campaigns. These activities help spread knowledge about the importance of forests and the need to preserve them for future generations.
