On October 31, 2024, in accordance with Order No. 284 dated September 17, 2014, of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, technical training was conducted on the peculiarities of phenological and biological development and the application of preventive measures to prevent the further accumulation and spread of dangerous species of stem pests. The training involved employees of enterprises, institutions, and organizations under the management of the State Forest Agency.
The welcoming speech was delivered by T.V. Kucherenko, Chief Specialist of the Department of Forest Protection and Conservation of the State Forest Resources Agency.
The training featured presentations by several experts: Professor Valentina Meshkova, Chief Researcher at the Department of Entomology, Phytopathology, and Physiology of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Forestry, spoke about "Organization of surveys of stem pest outbreaks, assessment of population indicators of stem insects. Preventive measures to prevent the spread of stem pests." Kateryna Kostrytska, a first-category forest pathologist at the Kherson Forest Protection Station, reported on "Peculiarities of biological and phenological development and the formation of mass reproduction centers of bark beetles." Vira Venher, Head of the Laboratory at the Lviv Forest Protection Station, presented on "Stem pests of the Carpathian region. Development peculiarities." Olga Nazarenko, Head of the Biological Laboratory at the Kharkiv Forest Protection Station, delivered a report on "Monitoring the population of stem pests using pheromone traps. Implementation of integrated methods for protecting plantations from stem pests using beneficial insects." In her presentation, she shared experience and results of installing pheromone traps for the top and six-toothed bark beetles, as well as discussed the cultivation and use of the ant beetle (Thanasimus formicarius) for protecting green spaces.
