International Forest Day

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as the International Day of Forests (IDF). This day is celebrated to draw attention to the importance of all types of forests. Each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to take action at local, national, and international levels to organize events related to forests and trees, such as tree-planting campaigns.

The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The theme for 2023 was "Forests and Health".

How will you celebrate this day? Organize or join events dedicated to forests: tree plantings, symposiums, art exhibitions, photo contests, or organize student debates. Don't forget to inform us about it at IDF@fao.org and send us photos so we can add them to the gallery of events happening around the world.

Share the logo, banners and posters - available in 13 languages. Join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #IntlForestDay. Share some of this year's key messages or take a photo of your favorite forest and share it with us and your friends.

Let's work together to protect our forests and promote their importance for our health and well-being. Healthy forests mean healthy people, and this International Day of Forests is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about this crucial connection.
